As the FAIR Health Data Repository Is Enriched, Insights from the Data Expand
December 17, 2024
As the FAIR Health data repository is further enriched with new data elements and data from new contributors, it expands the insights that can be gleaned. In 2024, through our own data studies and through use of our data and reports by external researchers, those insights continued to multiply.
In 2024, FAIR Health’s commercial healthcare claims repository surpassed 49 billion claim records, spanning the period from 2002 to the present. Already the nation’s largest repository of commercial healthcare claims, the database is growing at a rate of more than three billion claim records a year. Separately, our repository of traditional Medicare data, which we receive as a certified national Qualified Entity from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, surpassed 49 billion claim records from 2013 to the present.
Drawing on our data repository this year, FAIR Health issued studies and infographics on such topics as cancer in younger adults, giving birth, sexually transmitted diseases, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, mental health conditions and in-network and out-of-network utilization and pricing, among others. We continued and redesigned our Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker and expanded it with six-month Telehealth Tracker Trending Reports; we also released a new Opioid Tracker and updated our Cost of Giving Birth Tracker. We released the latest annual edition of our FH® Healthcare Indicators and FH® Medical Price Index. For more details, see the summary of this year’s FAIR Health Research in this issue.
As part of our continuing mission to advance health systems research, FAIR Health makes aggregated, de-identified data available to support other researchers in their targeted studies. In addition, many researchers cite our independent studies and infographics to enrich their own publications. Media outlets also cite and regularly report on FAIR Health studies or incorporate FAIR Health data in their stories. And industry leaders probe our studies for insights into the healthcare system writ large and to help inform strategic initiatives.
