As the Healthcare System Continues to Change, FAIR Health Data Keep Pace

As the healthcare system continues to undergo striking changes, FAIR Health’s rich repository of data continues to keep pace. In 2023, through our own data studies and through citations of our data and our reports by external researchers, FAIR Health shone a light on these changes.
In 2023, FAIR Health’s private healthcare claims repository surpassed 44 billion claim records, spanning the period from 2002 to the present. Already the nation’s largest repository of private healthcare claims, the database is growing at a rate of more than two billion claim records a year. Separately, our repository of traditional Medicare data, which we receive as a certified national Qualified Entity from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, surpassed 46 billion claim records from 2013 to the present.
Drawing on our data repository this year, we issued studies and infographics on such topics as eating disorders, primary care, ground ambulance services, Lyme disease, and shared decision making, among others. We continued and redesigned our Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker and launched our Opioid Tracker and Cost of Giving Birth Tracker. As part of our continuing mission to advance health systems research, FAIR Health makes aggregated, de-identified data available to support other researchers in their targeted studies. In addition, many researchers cite our independent studies and infographics to enrich their own publications. Media outlets also cite and regularly report on FAIR Health studies. And industry leaders probe our studies for insights into the healthcare system writ large and to help inform strategic initiatives.
