FAIR Health’s Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker Enters Sixth Year
April 24, 2025
With the release of January 2025 data this month, FAIR Health’s Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker enters its sixth year of reporting on the evolution of telehealth from month to month. As before, a free, interactive map of the US census regions allows the user to view an infographic on telehealth in a specific month in the nation as a whole or in individual regions. The new year, however, also brings notable changes to the Telehealth Tracker.
In 2024, all charts in the infographics were based on claim lines, the individual services or procedures listed on an insurance claim. Each infographic showed changes from month to month in telehealth’s percentage of medical claim lines. It also presented the top five telehealth diagnostic categories, top five mental health telehealth diagnoses and top five telehealth provider specialties. Also included were the age distribution for telehealth and the Place of Service Cost Corner, which compared median allowed amounts for a specific procedure provided via telehealth to the same procedure provided in an office.
Beginning in January 2025, most of the charts are based not on claim lines but on commercially insured patients with a telehealth claim. These include top five diagnostic categories; top five procedure categories; telehealth usage, urban versus rural; age distribution; and percent of patients with a telehealth claim. One chart still shows changes in telehealth’s percentage of medical claim lines from month to month.
The Telehealth Tracker is modified each year to present varied views of telehealth utilization and to keep pace with the changing needs of stakeholders for current information about this venue of care. What stays stable each year is the power of the Telehealth Tracker to open a window into telehealth as it continues to evolve.
