FAIR Health Presents at Three Notable Healthcare Conferences

In September, FAIR Health President Robin Gelburd presented virtually at three notable healthcare conferences. The events included a Financial Times panel discussion entitled “Strengthening America’s Healthcare Ecosystem,” on September 14; a panel discussion at the National Association of Health Data Organizations’ (NAHDO) 2021 annual conference, in which she gave a presentation entitled “Confronting a Pandemic: Using National Claims Data to Trace the Arc of COVID-19 and Offer Actionable Insights,” on September 28; and a presentation to the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) entitled “FAIR Health Analysis of Post-COVID Conditions,” on September 30.

Financial Times Panel
During the September 14 Financial Times virtual panel on strengthening America’s healthcare system, Ms. Gelburd discussed FAIR Health’s Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker and the variation in telehealth utilization among different populations. Ms. Gelburd was joined by several other prominent leaders in the healthcare field, including former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb and Karen Ignagni, President and Chief Executive Officer of EmblemHealth, and former President and Chief Executive Officer of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP).

NAHDO Annual Conference
On September 28, at the NAHDO 2021 annual conference, Ms. Gelburd delivered a presentation on using national healthcare claims data to review COVID-19’s impact on the US healthcare system and examine healthcare trends that emerged throughout the pandemic. Ms. Gelburd presented alongside Andrew Naumann, Director of Regional Programs with the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems, and Manuela Staneva, epidemiologist with the Mississippi State Department of Health.

Ms. Gelburd presented data from a series of FAIR Health COVID-19 research studies, including COVID-19: The Projected Economic Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the US Healthcare System, Illuminating the Impact of COVID-19 on Hospitals and Health Systems, Key Characteristics of COVID-19 Patients, The Impact of COVID-19 on Pediatric Mental Health and A Detailed Study of Patients with Long-Haul COVID, among others. Presenting data from FAIR Health’s Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker, Ms. Gelburd also discussed how telehealth utilization has declined nationally in 2021 as compared to 2020.

IASP Conference
During the September 30 presentation to the IASP, Ms. Gelburd spoke about FAIR Health’s analysis of post-COVID-19 conditions. Ms. Gelburd shared data from FAIR Health’s latest research study on newly diagnosed post-COVID-19 conditions. Ms. Gelburd stated that pain was the most commonly reported symptom among patients who recovered from COVID-19, with females making up a greater percentage of post-COVID-19 pain patients across all age groups.

Other speakers included Dr. Brian Walitt, Clinical Director of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, and Dr. Daniel Ciampi de Andrade, neurologist and attending physician at the Hospital das Clinicas in São Paulo, Brazil.
