University of Pennsylvania and The Ohio State University Collaborate with FAIR Health on Groundbreaking Initiative on Shared Decision Making with Older Adults

As part of a national initiative generously supported by The John A. Hartford Foundation (JAHF), FAIR Health is collaborating with recognized Age-Friendly Health Systems clinical sites at the University of Pennsylvania and The Ohio State University, in a groundbreaking effort that will yield critical insights regarding point-of-care use of healthcare engagement and shared decision-making tools available on FAIR Health for Older Adults (FAIRHealthOlderAdults.org). Clinical sites at two other institutions are also expected to participate.

Share of Patients with Mental Health Diagnoses Rose 40 Percent Nationally from 2019 to 2023, according to New FAIR Health Study

Nationally, the share of patients with mental health diagnoses rose 39.8 percent, from 13.5 percent of patients who received medical services in 2019 to 18.9 percent in 2023. Overall, the most common mental health diagnosis in 2023 was generalized anxiety disorder, but among patients aged 0-13 years, it was attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. These and other findings are reported in a recently released FAIR Health white paper: Trends in Mental Health Conditions: An Analysis of Private Healthcare Claims.

FAIR Health Data Support State and Federal Surprise Billing Laws

FAIR Health data serve in a variety of ways as an official reference point for state surprise billing laws in Connecticut, Georgia, New Mexico, New York and Texas. In addition, FAIR Health data help health plans, providers and arbitrators determine reimbursement amounts under the federal surprise billing law, the “No Surprises Act” (NSA).
