Associate Manager - Accounting

Summary of Position

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Associate Manager, Accounting, will be responsible for preparing and maintaining financial and business transactions, applying accounting principles to include work that is analytical and evaluative, using both accounting theory and practice. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities, including bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accrued expenses, fixed assets and payroll accruals, in addition to monthly and year-end closes, and audit preparation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the month-end close process to include reconciliations and adjusting entries
  • Assists the Corporate Controller with program expense reviews and prepare adjustment journal entries, as necessary
  • Perform monthly reconciliations for assigned bank and expense accounts
  • File month-end closing documentation
  • Monitor corporate credit card expenses for reasonability and proper documentation
  • Review and process employee expense reports, and audit to ensure policy compliance
  • Work with financial management to manage the fixed asset inventory and related depreciation entries
  • Support financial management in the renewing of vendor contracts, including contract amendments and dispute resolution
  • Perform various Accounts Payable duties, including maintaining vendor accounts on the vendor payment portal, verifying accuracy of vendor invoices, processing bills and vendor payments, handling vendor inquiries and disputes, and assisting in monthly accrual process
  • Manage accrual and prepaid expenses, including preparation of journal entries and management reporting
  • Participate in preparation of various analytical reports for distribution to senior management
  • Assist the Corporate Controller in the preparation of the audit schedules, analyses and related work papers
  • Special projects as directed by Corporate Controller

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • BS degree in Accounting or related field
  • 2-5 years’ experience in accounting
  • Degree in business or accounting preferred
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and bookkeeping principles and procedures
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • A good work ethic accompanied by a get-it-done attitude
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience in building/managing financial models and analyzing financial data a plus
